Tax Practitioner Guide

Working with a Registered Tax Practitioner

Introduction

When you work with a registered tax practitioner, you are entitled to expect professional, ethical and competent service.

This guide explains Profiniti’s obligations as a registered tax practitioner, your responsibilities as a client, how to check our registration with the Tax Practitioners Board, and what to do if you ever have a concern about the services provided.

This information is provided to help current and prospective clients make an informed decision about engaging, or continuing to engage, Profiniti for tax agent or BAS agent services.

About the Tax Practitioners Board

The Tax Practitioners Board, commonly referred to as the TPB, is the national body responsible for registering and regulating tax agents and BAS agents in Australia.

The TPB maintains a public register of registered tax practitioners. You can use this register to check whether a tax practitioner is registered, view their registration details, and check whether their registration is subject to any conditions.

Our responsibilities to you

As your registered tax practitioner, we are required to act professionally, lawfully and ethically. We are also required to comply with the Code of Professional Conduct and relevant obligations under the Tax Agent Services Act 2009.

This includes taking reasonable care when providing tax agent services, acting honestly and with integrity, managing conflicts of interest, maintaining confidentiality, and ensuring that tax agent services are provided competently.

  • provide services with reasonable care and skill
  • act honestly and with integrity
  • explain the scope of our services before work begins
  • tell you what information we need from you
  • maintain the confidentiality of your information, unless disclosure is permitted or required by law
  • take reasonable steps to ensure information we prepare or lodge is accurate and complete
  • advise you of relevant tax obligations and deadlines where this forms part of our engagement
  • let you know if there are limitations to the services we can provide.

Our engagement letter or service agreement will set out the specific scope of work, fees, responsibilities and terms that apply to your matter.

Your responsibilities as our client

To help us provide accurate and timely advice, you also have important responsibilities. The quality of our advice and the accuracy of any documents we prepare or lodge depend on the information you provide to us.

  • provide complete and accurate information
  • give us information by the agreed deadline
  • tell us about any changes in your circumstances
  • review documents, returns, statements and reports before they are finalised or lodged
  • ask questions if you do not understand something
  • keep your own records as required by law
  • pay our fees in accordance with our engagement terms.

Even where you engage a registered tax practitioner, you remain responsible for the accuracy and completeness of information provided to the ATO and other government agencies.

If you have a concern or complaint

We take client concerns seriously and encourage you to contact us first if something does not feel right or if you have concerns about the service you have received.

Where possible, please raise your concern in writing so we can properly review the matter and respond.

Profiniti contact details for client concerns:

  • Email: info@profniti.com.au

If your concern cannot be resolved directly with us, you may make a complaint to the TPB. The TPB requires complaints to be made in writing using its online complaints form. Please download the Information for clients factsheet 2025 (Information for clients)

Information we are required to disclose

The TPB requires registered tax practitioners to disclose certain information to current and prospective clients. This includes whether certain prescribed events have occurred within the relevant period and whether the practitioner’s registration is subject to conditions that limit the scope of tax agent or BAS services that can be provided.

Prescribed events may include matters such as suspension or termination of registration, bankruptcy or external administration, conviction for serious taxation offences, fraud or dishonesty offences, certain imprisonment matters, tax scheme-related penalties or orders, or Federal Court penalties for contravening civil penalty provisions under the Tax Agent Services Act 2009.

Profiniti disclosure statement

As at 16/05/2026, Profiniti confirms that:

  • No prescribed events are required to be disclosed / OR insert details of any prescribed event required to be disclosed.
  • Our TPB registration is not subject to conditions that limit the scope of tax agent or BAS services we can provide / OR insert details of any conditions.

This disclosure statement will be reviewed and updated if required.
